99% of the time the updates aren't even safety related, though, they're just to justify someone's employment by making minor tweaks that "enhance the user experience" by making basic functions harder to access behind yet another layer of submenus or to install bloatware. It's like the software industry is taking its cues from the textbook industry. So you end up in a perpetual state of updating software rather than using it and it ends up being less functional when you finally get to use the software after a month of waiting for it to install 3,000 daily updates.jfv wrote: Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:02 pmPoint taken, and something I’d generally agree with in most circumstances (i.e., software cannot be released until there are no known issues).enframed wrote: Wed Jul 05, 2023 12:54 pmHow about they work out ALL of the bugs, first. I work in safety.. and have been pushing for requirements for this for years.
Manufacturers have put up a big front on this, saying they know best.
I’m very torn. Users should be informed, but if there is a safety risk with the old software, am sorta on board with the update occurring without the user’s approval.
Actually, I have a lot of trouble with all of this on both sides, and it is what occasionally makes me want to throw it all away and live in the woods.
The problem is that in the world of cybersecurity and now AI, you might not know there is an issue until 2, 3 years after the software is released. There will
always be a need to update software as safely as possible.

Not sure if I get the point point but:kokorodoko wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 11:45 pm This is very interesting. This tweet is exactly what I'm thinking, so much so that I refer in my head to "the South Park mentality" as a description of the attitude I was surrounded with growing up, one which I deeply loathe.
But then lots of other people are responding to this saying no this is not what the show is about at all, you didn't pay attention, and this take is a tediously predictable one from people who don't pay attention.
Have I gotten it wrong?

I understand the "South park mentality" term not necessarily goes against the show.
A lot of people grows up with a "South park mentality", a lot of them don't even watch tv and don't know about the show existence. I can understand using that "South park mentality" term to refer to them. Not sure if I'd be happy if I was one of the series creators but who cares.
As a " normal" adult who loathes a lot of the behavior showed there I just think that show is kinda funny at best but nothing memorable.
I mean, if someone is stupid he/she may think some behaviors shown on a tv show are "fine" just cause it seems "funny".
As I said b4, not sure if I got what you were talking about. Just my two cents anyway.
