2For me, on attitude alone, the Mats take it for me. As cool as the Huskers could be, those first three albums are hard to listen to. The Mats ran circles around them.

3The Mats still resonate with me. Sometimes because it reminds me of who I was at one point. Big Star and a couple Richard Linklater movies have the same effect.
Every time I put on Sorry Ma, its inventiveness surprises me. They had an amazing instinct for how to put together verses and choruses and fills and bits of texture.
The only Husker Du record that I still come back to is Zen Arcade. That one rips. Sugar still strikes me as the better band.
