New record out today. Making interesting music and experimenting with form and method, as always.

Checking it out now. There's been a resurgence in jazz in recent years as far as music that feels culturally relevant (Shabaka Hutchings comes to mind), and no longer just music school noodling or obscure-for-obscure-sake free jazz. What I'm hearing so far is a bit too "hip hop with jazzy samples" for my tastes but I'll give it a chance.

I saw him at an 'Experimental Music Fest' our town had a few years back. I'm not a jazz fan, but I very much enjoyed his set - the xylophone player in particular was fun to watch. I think Jeff Parker from Tortoise was in the band as well? For that, I'll give him a not crap.

huh.. that would make sense as some of what I heard sounded like the most recent Jeff Parker record (which is NC but not something I'd reach for often).

Checked out and then picked up Universal Beings after reading about McCraven here, and I love it. Not crap.
