The Syd stuff: can be very NC but a little too whimsical sometimes. It was the '60s I suppose..
up through Animals: NC overall even if there are a few songs we never need to hear again. I drop off by The Wall, which isn't horrible, just weirdly sterile and overblown.
NC
Re: Band: Pink Floyd, (The)
2Not crap. Great psychedelic music up to but not including The Wall.
Lots of LSD taken to PF in the US-80s. Good times.
Live at Pompeii is pretty fucking great. That rendition of "Echoes" is the best, esp the jam that starts at 8 minutes.
The audio only track of the "concert" is In the Shadow of Vesuvius.
I love watching Nick Mason play drums.

3Animalsstands as my favorite Floyd album of their entire catalog, followed closely by Meddle. The Wallis too bloated for my taste. Their movie soundtrack, More, gets an honorable mention.

4I wonder if I'm going to be on my own here, but I prefer the Syd Barrett era. I'm in it for the wierdness. DSOTM is the one everyone loves and to me it's the sound of a prog band gone pop. Not wierd pop anymore either. Disappointing.
Mason and Wright are/were okay, Waters can be a bit much but he's a good bass player...I think the problem for me is I don't like Gilmour. I can't put my finger on why exactly. Your common or garden musician of a certain age seems to worship the guy and I've never felt anything good towards him. He can play yes, but his playing and singing just doesn't grab me in any way, shape or form.
I'd still give them a solid NC though, for the bits I like.

5I think they get a solid NC for everything up to Animals. Roger Waters' last solo record was solid, too.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.

6I'd even agree that his solos are boring. Sounds like he labors over every note.Johnny Doglands wrote: Your common or garden musician of a certain age seems to worship the guy and I've never felt anything good towards him. 7NC if not for Astronomy Domine and Live at Pompeii alone. They definitely have a line that when it gets crossed becomes unlistenable crap to me, but I can only imagine how fun it was to be in Pink Floyd when Pink Floyd was the most Pink Floyd Pink Floyd that had ever existed.
Re: Band: Pink Floyd, (The)
8I like everything up through The Final Cut. After that I got off the train.
Not Crap.
Not Crap.

The good stuff is just too good. But maybe half of their discography is useless.
NC.
