A technique when, used sparingly and appropriately, is an acceptable tool for the artist, or a hair metal staple that should be vaporized?

My old metal head buddy who grew up in Alabama called them "squealies". That's Not Crap.

Mostly Crap in application but there are a handful of exceptions.

Rarely tastefully applied, but when they're right they are fucking right, so NC.

I'm turned off when I think of anyone known for their use of squealy harmonics, but I'm sure a lot of people use them all the time, and tastefully.

I don't know how to vote. That technique was pretty well worn out by Dimebag Darrell, John Christ, and Tommy Victor.

I do it. If you put it in the right moment, not always on a high string/fret, not always with a bend, it won't even sound cliche. Or you can end a song with one at band practice and make the drummer smile.

I knew a guitarist who wrote a part where he repeatedly pinch harmoniced eighth notes on one note while moving his picking hand rapidly down away from the bridge for different harmonic overtones. It was rad. I would lift the technique but I haven't had a stroke of imagination to make it anything other than a ripoff yet.
