Kerble as needed, but it doesn't appear the Pelican band thread made it to the new forum.
Anyway, I saw their first few records are getting reissued by Thrill Jockey this year, and the original line-up will be touring.
I am super stoked on this news.
Re: Band: Pelican
3Not crap.
I dont think they are AMAZING, but I have seen them put on some good shows, seem like cool dudes, I also think their drummer gets dumped on too much. First 3 things they put out were enjoyable.

4I keep trying with this band, and it just never clicks.
I don't think that means they're Crap, though. Just not my thing.

5I tried really hard to like them, but their music is just so boring to me.
One of the best band names, though.

6The first new Pelican music from the reunited original lineup comes out in a few hours. Looking forward to it.

7Drumming sucks, really drags the whole thing down.Owen wrote: Fri Jan 21, 2022 5:18 pm I also think their drummer gets dumped on too much. First 3 things they put out were enjoyable.
I do kinda like those first 3 records, they were being played a lot by my social circle at the time (ditto Isis). Neurosis / Godflesh etc were def a bridge too far for that crowd, which is telling in hindsight.
But while I wouldn't say it's bad, for a band operating in the paradigm of earlier innovators, it just ain't really good enough.
Crap
Re: Band: Pelican
8I liked the first EP and Australasia. Once they got more into the delay pedal Explosions in the Sky kind of stuff I got pretty bored, and it exposed their rhythmic weakness even more. I never went back, but I know some trustworthy people who still praise them as a live band.

9Australasia is pretty good but it starts to drag. Russian Circles is better.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.
