A flute in a rock band setting is primarily used for one thing: solos
Solos on any instrument can be great, but they can go into suck territory really quick if too long or if soloist is bad.
I don't have strong opinions either way about Jethro Tull.

6I have a soft spot for this song mostly because it opens Saxondale
