Contemporary jazz artist: Shabaka Hutchings
1Sax player from London. Member/leader of Shabaka and the Ancestors, Sons of Kemet, and The Comet Is Coming.
Voted NC based on Sons of Kemet, as it's all I'd heard of him before this. So STRONG NC. Interesting contemporary exploration of Spiritual Jazz, which seems to be happening across the globe. I'm loving this growing movement.penningtron wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 6:47 am Both of those Ancestors records are great. Haven't heard much beyond that but NC at all.
Along those lines a friend just recommended this new album to me this weekend. I'm a sucker for Ethiopian influenced sax so I'm on board.PASTA wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 9:31 am Interesting contemporary exploration of Spiritual Jazz, which seems to be happening across the globe. I was able to give it a listen the other day and yeah.. the rhythm section is much more straight forward in a "get up and shake yr asses" way. I definitely prefer the Ancestors but it still had its moments.Happyman wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 11:46 am I think [Sons of Kemet] are great at what they do but it annoys me. I think they're great but never want to listen to them. They sound like The Ex with sheet music.
I bet they're great live.
