Never Crap, but you need space. The one positive during the desert years was cranking it way up.

Depends almost entirely on the P.A. situation. With a nice powerful P.A., mics on everything, good individual monitors and a sound engineer who knows what they're doing, not crap. Waffles for outdoor temperatures above 80 degrees or below 50 degrees. And bees/wasps.

It's fun but the (non existent) acoustics suck.

I don't play but have never had a bad experience listening to live music outdoors. Acoustics can be an issue, yeah. Do amphitheaters count? They can sound great. Just a stage in a park, not so much, but still fun.

Not Crap, but dependence on many factors (particularly including but not limited to the weather) earns lots of waffles.

A late summer day, 70F / 20C, no precipitation, and NO WIND, sounds lovely. Not easy to get that in the midwestern USA.

Huge boost to covid safety. Of all the threat reduction strategies available at this time, this is probably the best one, even if it's not the easiest to pull off.
