Re: Subregion: The Deep South
2Not crap.
Spent a month driving all the way down the river from Tennessee to NOLA and then over to Austin. Every single last person we met, from family to strangers and to PRFers, were amazing. Hi Dave N! Also hushpuppies! How does the rest of the planet not know about them? And those little bottles of white vinegar and tobasco chillies on every table right across the whole place? So, so good.

4Do these count as 'deep south'?seby wrote: Tennessee to NOLA and then over to Austin
Crap for me, mostly because I don't like heat + humidity.
Re: Subregion: The Deep South
5I thought so. Surely Mississippi does?! We crossed over into Alabama too. Is Louisiana not Deep South? <-- Genuine Q here, I just figured that the further South you get, the deeper it is. Austin is probably South West or something. Anyhow, forgive the Australian please! : )penningtron wrote: Mon Apr 24, 2023 6:34 amDo these count as 'deep south'?seby wrote: Tennessee to NOLA and then over to Austin

6Oh definitely. Just that places like NOLA and Austin (and even Nashville) are unique to their surroundings.seby wrote: Mon Apr 24, 2023 6:56 amI thought so. Surely Mississippi does?! Re: Subregion: The Deep South
8Generally thought that the "deep South" referred to the same area as the "Bible belt", i.e., east of the Mississippi and south of the Tennessee. Probably excludes parts of Florida south of Lake City or so.

9Yeah that sounds right. Kind of how "Appalachia" doesn't mean the entirety of the mountains range.jfv wrote: Mon Apr 24, 2023 7:46 am Generally thought that the "deep South" referred to the same area as the "Bible belt", i.e., east of the Mississippi and south of the Tennessee. Re: Subregion: The Deep South
10Crap.
Lived in Nashville for 8 years. Getting outside the city, especially heading toward and into Alabama and Mississippi, you were bombarded with either redneck good 'ol boy mentality or bible thumping repressive christianity.
Plus the weather sucks. Heat and humidity are not my friends. Threats of tornados all the time.
The traditional/local food is the only redeeming quality.
