2Handsome devil.
Sing must be the "better" or "more accomplished" one... but thee sheer roughness of Diablo wins for me.

Re: Bastro thread
3Sing The Troubled Beast is the more diverse and experimental of the two but Diablo Guapo just runs over your head like a fucking truck. Plus it has that awesome Phil Ochs cover. Anyone know if John McEntire's drums are double tracked? Wish I'd gotten to see them live.
Re: Bastro thread
4Diablo Guapo. Wilder and harsher. "Shoot Me a Deer," "Flesh-Colored House," the title track, and "Tallow Waters" are just fucking blinding.
Sing the Troubled Beast is wonderful and way more mature, but it doesn't have nearly as much impact. (Although I might like it a little better than the early version of Diablo Guapo, which was scrapped and then mostly rerecorded w/tighter playing, faster tempi, and McEntire handling the drums on every song but one.)

Re: Bastro thread
6Bit off-topic but I'm listening to them for the first time and there's a heavy Big Black influence, no?
Re: Bastro thread
7Not a lot methinks. The first Ep with the drum machine... yeah. And Grubbs voice sometimes reminds me of Albini's.andyman wrote: Thu May 25, 2023 4:28 am Bit off-topic but I'm listening to them for the first time and there's a heavy Big Black influence, no?
But from Diablo onwards they sound pretty much like no one else I think.
BASTRO > Big Black
