My search for a C/NC on the new site did not yield any results. Kerble if necessary.
Have been a distant admirer for years, lately been enjoying Purge. Vocals are the weak link for me but bless them for making Alesis drum machines grudgingly acceptable.
How's about it?
Re: Band: Godflesh
2More about the first few albums than anything after the post-Jesu-being-done revival with the 9 string djent guitars. Not crap for the track Locust Furnace alone.
Re: Band: Godflesh
3Genuine question, does playing a guitar with an extra string or two make one "Djent"? I'm not super familiar with the term but from what little know I don't hear a lot of that in Godflesh.
Maybe should be a separate thread or something.
Re: Band: Godflesh
4I think it derives from Meshuggah making a rhythmic "duh-jent" sound on every track. I don't recall it being a term until internet kids discovered Meshuggah 20 years late.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.
Re: Band: Godflesh
6Pure is one of my favourite albums of all time. They really hit on an atmosphere that is bleak but not oppressive, mechanised but filled w/ anguish and despair... very powerful for such a limited bag of guit tricks (and being sonically compromised, I'll admit).
Very good band from the start up to and including Selfless, including all the EPs and singles. I do think Streetcleaner is a tad overrated though.
Good on Songs... through to Us and Them.
Patchy thereafter. I though A World... was pretty bad - a lackluster imitation of Streetcleaner through a 'down w/ the kids' lens. It honestly reminded me of the early Pitchshifter records. I liked Purge on first listen but haven't gone back to it yet.
Justin is so bad live that I've stopped paying to see him: tried 4 times and every it was amateurish to the point of embarrassment.
NC overall, though.

Re: Band: Godflesh
7I "saw" them at Oblivion Access this year. And of course, by "saw" I mean, I heard them while they played a hundred or so feet away from me while I "saw" the back of someone's head and their camera phone. Seemed cool though.
Teal Stripe - heavy indie rock
Inverted Candles - antifascist blackmetal
Mirage Music Club - YMO worhip (let us score your indie game)
Service Model - we have Aphex Twin at home

Re: Band: Godflesh
8Godflesh are not djent at all, which is why I find it distasteful that they use those goofy things. Apparently it was on some Jesu stuff and I didn't even notice, though.ErikG wrote: Mon Aug 07, 2023 7:02 pmGenuine question, does playing a guitar with an extra string or two make one "Djent"?
