Band: Alan Parson's Project

I've been a fan as long as I can remember first hearing "Time" on the radio back in 1979 or 1980. I just picked up three more APP records for like $5 each, cleaned em up, and holy shit these are fucking great. Excellent recordings! Many, many good songs. Some stuff is derivative of (a few near rip-offs) of other things, but damn does it sound good. I only have up through Ammonia Avenue, but so much of these are really good. I feel like Super Furry Animals were big fans.

I do not know his/their entire discography. Only The Turn of a Friendly Card and Eye in the Sky.

“Sirius”/“Eye in the Sky” is awesome, no matter how many times I’ve heard it, which has been a lot thanks to the Bulls.

“Time” is an interesting one. Good song on its own. It does sound a LOT like The Dark Side of the Moon to me, an obvious comparison. On the recording, Eric Woolfson sounds just like Richard Wright, which makes me wonder whether he actually does in real life or if that’s just how Parsons records singers.

Probably don’t know enough to definitively vote. There are some NC songs on those two albums but also a few that aren’t particularly interesting.

Parsons produced Dark Side of the Moon, and "Time" is in part a rip-off of "Us and Them," but I prefer the former.

"Don't Answer Me" is such a nice song. Not Crap on that alone. I can understand negative opinions based on the bloat and perfectionism of a lot of their material, but I cannot deny a beautiful song, and they have some beauts let me tell you.

Speaker cables or interconnects?

Dude knew his way around Abbey Road Studios. I'd take APP's perfectionism over Steely Dan's.
