I agree.

I've got a pretty limited budget for entertainment these days. Will probably have to sacrifice my next couple of movie nights to see Sinners again in imax. Reading discussions, I realize I missed a lot seeing it on a big screen but not in that format.

Except for wanting more of the Choctaw posse, I thought it was just about perfect. Have been listening to the score and the soundtrack for the last couple of days.

I can be persnickety the vampire genre, but I had a fun time, bordering on spiritually healing with a couple of music sequences. Could've been much spookier, didn't get afeared or nothing, but a good time overall!

I like to think they got home, ate, put the kids to bed, settled in for the night with a good book, and then thought ... did one of use remember to set fire to that house before we drove off?

As I said in the movie thread, just really enjoyed it. It could have been a complete mess and yet it manages to come together so well. Music, dance, southern US history, vampires, ... oral sex. Covers all the bases. I suppose it is a little light on fear and threat: the standoff with the doorman / bouncer is perhaps the most tense moment, but this is a minor quibble (my partner is easily spooked, but unmoved by this). They even addressed the viability of the business, which is the sort of niggle that irritates me when unaddressed. These details matter.

Edit: and I said elsewhere, let's hear it for Delroy Lindo.

And Buddy Guy

My horror nerd alarm went off when I saw a dracula drinking whiskey. A minor quibble.

I would've been charmed by the draculas bittersweet Gaelic folk song. Gotten bit real quick.

EDIT: props to Wunmi Mosaku who plays Annie. She co-stars in one of my favorite haunted house films of the past few years, His House. Seriously, see this movie. Heavy and spooky.

Very, very good. The first hour in particular was kinda breath-taking, honestly.

There's a beat at a train station that spoke fucking VOLUMES about the pressure cooker they're living in (are still living, really).

100% more cunnilingus content than I was expecting, too. The music at times almost felt like a soundtrack to an 80's film, which was mildly strange, but ultimately I think it worked. Will probably remember one sequence (halfway through the film) for as long as I can remember shit.

A+. Full marks. Fucking totally killer film. In that pantheon of "I think anyone could watch this and find something to hook into" movies.

Finally saw this, only go to a theater a few times a year. I had avoided most press so just knew the setting and that there were vampires. The setup was about what I expected and then after about 45 mins it started branching all over the place in the best, wildest way. Not a horror fan at all and loved it. If anything, the actual horror/gore parts were the least interesting. At its best, I felt like I was being invited into someone else's deeply emotional and closely guarded experiences in a way that is really hard to pull off. Will probably go see again
