Best drum beats (warning: a prog-free thread)

So every other musical phenomenon gets a thread, why not beats that make your soul and balls equally happy?

Note, this does not refer to "drum solos" or "list songs where the drummer plays the fastest." Because, really, no one gives a flying shit that Mike Portnoy can play one-handed paradiddles in 17/32 time while he juggles fire and plays 3 bass drums, all on horseback. This refers specifically to beats, preferably the type you can't get out of your head.

Beats not played by humans are allowed, i.e. Roland.

-Led Zeppelin, "fool in the rain" (sorry, those who go first get to take the obvious ones)
-Big Black, "power of independent trucking"
-giddy motors, "hit cap"
-hot snakes, "our work fills the pews"
-nine inch nails, "march of the pigs"
-the bernard "purdie shuffle", played on far too many songs to specify just one

And.......I'm spent. For the moment.

Wow, "March of the Pigs". That is a nifty drumbeat and the only worthwhile thing ever to come out of that hilarious band.

I'm goin' with...

Anything Rick Pelletier drummed on (Six Finger Satellite)
Any Disco Inferno song
Mimi Parker - any
Most anything that Stephen Morris drums on (Joy Division and New Order)
Mo Tucker in the VU
Any early Swans - specifically live stuff with two drummers
Peter Prescott - any
Doug Scharin - any
The recurring "Be My Baby" drumbeat on Psychocandy. I think it's Bobby Gillespie
Any Liquid Liquid
Just about any Galaxie 500 song
Robo on the Misfits' Earth A.D.
Most Can songs
PIL: "Track 8"
Sonic Youth: "Pipeline/Kill Time"
The Cure: "100 Years", "Siamese Twins", "Play for Today"
Devo: "Satisfaction", "Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin')"
Bedhead: "Psychosomatica"
Silkworm: "Wet Firecracker" That little "breakdown" thingie that happens in that song gets me every time

most definitely...specific votes go towards "Disorder" and "Atrocity Exhibition"...

hell yes...specific vote goes to "Herion"...

i'd single out "Mushroom" and "Oh Yeah"...

placeholder wrote:PIL: "Track 8"

great one, but i'd say "Four Enclosed Walls" is my favorite...

placeholder wrote:Sonic Youth: "Pipeline/Kill Time"

Steve Shelley had so many great ones, especially on Sister..."Schizophrenia," "Stereo Sanctity"...Bob Bert has a few great ones on Bad Moon Rising like "Flower" and "I'm Insane" and "Ghost Bitch"...Steve's my favorite, but i do like all their past drummers and could go on to the first album and ep for a few great drums tracks as well...

i'd second all those and probably a few more from those bands if i'd care to think of 'em...ooh...The Cure: "Closing Down," "The Top"...

then there's that beat on all of Neu!'s songs...it's amazing...

i'll probably think of a bunch more on my own when i'm with my cds...Buzzcocks had some great drumming..."You Tear Me Up" comes to mind but there's so many more...like "Operators Manual"...but i'm sure i'm missing my favorite...
