A lot of talk about this movie around these parts. But I can't find a C/NC.

"Nobody fucks with the Jesus."

Nihilist: We believe in nothing, Lebowski. Nothing. And tomorrow we come back and we cut off your chonson.
The Dude: Excuse me?
Nihilist: I said
[shouting]
Nihilist: We'll cut off your johnson!
Nihilist: Just you think about that, Lebowski.
Nihilist: Yeah, your wiggly penis, Lebowski.
Nihilist: Yeah, and maybe we stomp on it and squoosh it, Lebowski.

"No, Donny, these men are nihilists. There's nothing to be afraid of. "

The Dude: It's like what Lenin said... you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh...
Donny: I am the walrus.
The Dude: You know what I'm trying to say...
Walter Sobchak: That fucking bitch...
The Dude: Oh yeah!
Donny: I am the walrus.
Walter Sobchak: Shut the fuck up, Donny! V.I. Lenin. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov!
Donny: What the fuck is he talking about, Dude?

I saw it when it came out and was mildly amused. Since then a never ending succession of people have tried to convince me that it is the best commedy script ever and they can quote from the film till they're blue in the face, I still find it only mildly amusing. I for once think that any Billy Wilder movie has a far better script.
So its not crap, but seeing as this film is so completely overrated I somehow have to even the score I guess.

The Big Lebowski is terrific as is the underrated Jeff Bridges, great movie, great actor. Anyone notice the check he writes for sixty nine cents at Ralphs has 9/11 as the date, just as he looks at Bush Sr on television justifying the first war against Iraq?

Great idea to set the movie in the early nineties with that war as part of the backdrop.

I've always thought Steve Buscemi's character (Donny) was a little undeveloped but that's the only criticism I can come up with. Maybe he was there just so John Goodman could tell him to shut the fuck up.

Fucking great, not crap.
