Yes, yes, and yes--the first two albums (Modern Dance, Dub Housing) are essential, as are the non-album early singles, collected on the Terminal Tower album. I too have a soft spot for New Picnic Time. As for the later stuff, I lost track of them in the early 90s, although I did catch one of the first shows with Tom Herman back in the band (mid-90s) and Lord, it was fine to be alive, on the Earth, and in that room on that night. Later shows were also good, but that night was special.

If you ever see the Datapanik box set, buy it.

The same applies for when I saw Rocket From the Tombs last December. Makes me feel a bit better about being a big fat guy in a rock band. I know I've mentioned that before, but I thought it merited mentioning again. He seriously got into it with the guy who was trying to videotape the show, which was cool, I thought.

Seriously. Those early few albums and the singles compiled on Terminal Tower are some of my favorites. Dub Housing might be my very favorite, but every Pere Ubu album is good in its own way. Varying degrees of good, but good nonetheless. NOT CRAP.
