Totally stripped-down, functional, reliable from what I gather, esp now that Ducatis are fuel-injected. Great-looking. Plenty fast enough, but not so much so that I'm getting myself in trouble.

I will probably put new pipes on it sometime in the not-too-distant future. But otherwise, it's my kind of thing among motorcycles.

nice bike and congratulations. i have had two small v-twins (a honda hawk and an SV 650) and they were fun bikes.

I probably would have gotten an SV650 if I hadn't lucked into the Monster.

Plus, you get wet when it rains, you freeze to death when it's cold and 99% of the times it looks like you're a douchebag just trying too hard.

If I ever decide to die while traveling at least I'll try to do it in a way I don't look like a douche.

CRAP

Be sure to stay off of bicycles as well.

Ha, it's funny, but I never ever got on a bicycle. I wouldn't even know how to ride it.

I've been riding bikes for 21 yrs, and have owned 14 different bikes. As a general rule I hate other motorcyclists, due to their attitude and such. I currently ride a '07 Ninja 250, it gets near 80 mpg and is liquid cooled, and is ideal for commuting. I ride safely and always have to deal with assholes trying to race me or telling me I ride a women's bike...etc. So I can understand why motorcyclists as a whole have a bad rap. The whole R.U.B(rich urban biker) culture is horrid, the chrome, the "potato-ing sound" they make, the gay leather, ugh. It sucks major balls. I never go on rides for fun anymore since I commute 300 days out of the year, rain or shine, and I have almost died at least 10 times. So, some of us agree with the sentiment, but I still ride.

Birds of a feather. I was eyeing an SV650 until I came across a 2002 Monster 620 with low miles on Craigslist. I haven't quite started talking to it with a fake Italian accent, though.

I saw the Melvins at OK's Corral in Madison back in about '89. They did a rather abnormal set, only played like 2 regular songs and the rest of it was a sort of free-form jam.

Several times during that performance I noticed how much they sounded like a gang of V-Twins operating simultaneously at various throttle settings.

YES! I don't like anything so loud that it hurts my precious ears...so I just cover them. I love the sound of a motorcycle. At it's best, it just sounds like music to me. Like a saxophone through a plexi at 1am.

I'm too much of a puss to ride one though. Too many horror stories from my dad.

Yeah, SV650 is a really nice bike. The Ducati is marginally nicer looking and has slightly better build quality, but that is about it.

I haven't started talking to mine in fake Italian, either, but I might.

I think I"m not getting new pipes. I was going to do the whole upgraded ECU/pipes/airbox jazz, but shit, it's plenty fast. I can't come up w/a good reason to do it that doesn't involve getting myself in trouble.
