On balance, outdoor shows are Not Crap. Having said that, have got exactly one show penciled in for the coming season, and since it'll take place here, in July...I for one am glad it'll be held indoors, where presumably some kind of air conditioning will be in the mix.

I've seen a few symphonic things that sounded good, but rock shows in ampitheaters sound weird. Sounds like the band is 5 miles away, with canned reverb on everything.

Fun for hanging out on a picnic blanket and whatnot, but then the band is basically background noise.

NC but for it to get any kind of loud, you need a lot of power.

Playing without walls is like an anechoic chamber - with no reflections, that first wave is all you get....

I love playing outside.

Just practice w/ Josh for the first time in 2 years and did it outside. Worked well. Highly recommend.

In general not a fan unless there's good sound reinforcement, monitoring, etc.

Things that have sucked about playing outside:

• Being attacked by a bee while playing

• Not being able to read my tuner because the sun is shining directly on it

• My spot was right in the sun and I got a gnarly sunburn and nearly had heat exhaustion while playing

• Oh also my pedal board was so hot by the end of the set it hurt to pick it up

Yeah, tuning is such a crapshoot anyway in direct sunlight.

The last two shows I played were outside in the sun, and I dealt with heat exhaustion after both, even though it was about 85F. One of my favorite stages in Austin (Cheer Up Charlie’s, formerly Club Deville) is a joy to play, so long as the sun has set. Gonna give playing outside NC, serious waffles for daytime shows.
