I play in a guitar/ bass/ drum machine band. We have minimal synth (hardware and software) on some songs and on those songs the parts are integral.

Lately I've spent more time on synth parts to make them more central to new material. It's fun to make cool noises but I'm starting to think it's a rabbit hole that I don't want to go into.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I've made a conscious decision to stop myself at my one little monophonic synth. I'm a multi instrumentalist, that already builds in a master of none element. I find that second to cultivating curiosity as a creative person, is focusing it which sometimes means not fucking with certain things because you're already prone to tail chasing.
