aw man, I was really hoping that was your real nameDr Tony Balls wrote: Tue Mar 07, 2023 9:21 am I dunno, do you not have some decades old nickname as stupid as "Balls" that you can run with and kick yourself for 15 years down the line?

282Kinda makes me think of an old sedan. "Jury" has such an authoritative ring to it, but using your own name might feel odd.c jury wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 11:27 pm After consulting with a couple branding experts, how do we all feel about "Century Guitars"?
I always liked when names came from abreviating a short generic phrase like "Ford Motor Company" becoming "FOMOCO" or whatever "NAMCO" was short for.
You could easily acid etch something in the simpler style of 30s to 60s logos like you'd often find on cool old metal tag branding.
Not what I'm thinking but the "MONA" part of this image or any individual line of it is cool.

Re: A Few New Projects
284Well, thanks to the strong young dudes who work w/ me at the guitar shop, the mill is now on the bench. It uses an MT3-ER20 collet system, and only came with metric collets. A couple sizes are close enough that I was able to put a piece in vice and spin it up. Feels like a Cadilac compared to the Geo Metro of the little mill.
Re: A Few New Projects
285Good weekend. #8 BJ's body came out pretty nice, and I got the prototype bass VI sprayed flat black.
About 90% done with shaping the neck. Goal for this week is to get the neck finalized, route for the pickup and get the fretboard attached.
And got a long way on the bass VI- the facing operation on the receiver is done, headstock has another pass. Should be done with machining by the end of the week.
The new mill is really working out great. I got a set of SAE ER-20 collets to allow me to use all of my existing tooling- although it is nice to have the metric collets that came w/ it. I think working on 2 instruments at a time seems to be saving some time.

286Well it’s pretty popular. Vintage electronics logos are just rad. Like this one mentioned in another thread:

Oh and this is hot as fuck:

Re: A Few New Projects
289Had a great few days in the shop. Guitar #8 is shaped and sanded to #180. Fretboard is attached, tuner spacers are attached. Also pictured is the beautiful Bolivian Rosewood board for the bass VI. Forgive the tape residue all over the board. Goal for next week is to get it drilled and tapped for tuners and sanded to #400
The Bass VI (#9) also made great strides. Neck is shaped, body and headstock are sanded. Next step is to get the board slotted and attached.
You may remember #5, an attempt at a bolt-on neck. All good, except that the holes did not align w/ the Vacarro body it was for. It is back in the shop- and I have milled away 1/8" - new holes will be drilled (I have the body now, so they will fit), but they will still anchore to the 'meat' of the neck. I'm also going to make some pocket shims to make sure we have some depth options.
And as a way to help recoup some of the cost of equipment I'm going to make some tshirts. I have some maroon ink kicking around, and have some olive heather shirts on the way. Perhaps you would like one? I was thinking may $15 plus a couple bucks for shipping? PM me w/ size and we'll get it sorted.
