Netflix Program: Mindhunter

Watched the first two episodes, and just am not feeling it; in particular, the pacing feels glacial. It does, however, feel like the first two episodes were stage-setting, and that I might be giving up just when the show is about to really get rolling.

Those who’ve watched the show: does it develop into something more once the opening formalities are out of the way?

It is indeed slow, but ultimately worth it.
This is my take as well. Nothing extraordinary, but a decent show. I had read several of John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's books, so I was interested in the material.
My favorite eps were the Fincher-directed ones.
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

I really liked it when the first two seasons aired. I've rewatched some of it and it doesn't land as well as I remembered. Essentially, my engagement in the series depends on whether I find the "serial killer of the week" interesting or not. Holt McCallany rocks in every episode though. Glad that guy finally got more recognition thanks to that role.

Just finished it. Thought it was fantastic.

Looks really wonderful, perfectly refined 70s noir look. Acting is stylized but not so much so that it doesn't seem real. Every single character is done great. Kemper guy is fantastic, scene where he hugs Holden is genuinely chilling. Manson scene is remarkable.

So much true crime is just death porn masquerading as horror. This isn't--the killers are deluded, pathetic, predictable and the crimes are appropriately hideous. Consensus seems to be there are fewer serial killers now because we better know how to find them, and this kinda lays out how that happened, in brief.

I would recommend it to literally anyone who thinks it sounds interesting and isn't put off by things easily.

And yes you might have to get thru the 1st couple eps. It takes its time.

This show is one of our faves. We've rewatched it once, which we almost never do. I like the lack of gore, love the mood, and it's super compelling. I'm bummed it got cancelled because that dude that was working towards his star turn as BTK really got ripped off with no third season. The Kemper actor was exceptional.
