Some people make a little foam donut to go under the knob. Might only work on strat-type knobs though, where there's a recess for the donut to fit.

The knobs on one of my guitars are very fast! I prefer them to be tighter and slower, so that I don't bump them out of place as often! Is there an easy fix for this?
I kid. What Nate said. Friction is friction. If it isn’t strat style, you might try using some squishy/soft/thin material with double stick tape. Or that picture hanging foam type material 3M stuff if double stick isn’t working. Cut it in a circle slightly smaller than your knob, stick it to the pickguard/body, get your knob all the way making contact with the circle, tighten the set screw.
Or use these: https://reverb.com/item/44427094-d-adda ... t=44427094

1563There are also EVH branded high friction pots, though that's more invasive and they only come in 250K, it seems.

1565Equally invasive, but various brands of pots do feel different. You could read up on preferences, though that might involve wading perilously into realms og tone nerds.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:01 pm There are also EVH branded high friction pots, though that's more invasive and they only come in 250K, it seems.

1566This is very true. Ages ago I bought some Bourns pots for an amp and they were all crazy slippy slidey low friction. CTS by comparison are much more palatable to me.VaticanShotglass wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:05 amEqually invasive, but various brands of pots do feel different. 1567Deoxit Fader Grease can also be used to damp the physical response of pots. Just squirt it in through the opening.

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1570I keep the “fader” knob on a Neve style preamp at halfway at all times for all things. I don’t really know why, I just started doing it once and liked it and never stopped. I just like things to sound like old records without getting into ridiculous garage rock revivalist territory… I’m generally never compressing anything that hard for color. But this is a mic preamp, so of course the effect is relatively subtle. We are not in fuzzbox territory here. And Glyn Johns likes to do that on drums!
Should I not be doing that with the preamp? Just wondering if its one of those stupid habits that will bite me in the ass later at mastering or something.
