For basic usage, that's alright, but in a strict sense, it's not true.

"Affect" can be a noun, as in "That Mark Rothko painting has a lot of affect for something more abstract."

Making things more complicated is that for this use of "affect," I believe it's pronounced "ah-fect" and not "uhfect." Or at least that's how people I've known have said it.

"That guitar effect affects the signal by distorting it." Is it any wonder why musicians especially would get confused about this?
