Re: RIP v2 - still no cure for death

I enjoyed The New York Trilogy back in the aughts, especially the first book. Auster's writing, at its best, has that nimble mixture of lyricism and frankness that makes for fun reading. Have only read a couple of others, which were more uneven, but I'll have to give Moon Palace a go. He always struck me as someone who was less of a prick/more of a mensch than other writers of a similar stature.

There's a very good film adaptation of Knut Hamsun's Hunger that was done by Henning Carlsen and later released on Project X. I'd recommend this movie! The DVD features an interview between Auster and Hamsun's great grand daughter. In it, Auster does most of the talking, but has interesting things to say and he makes reference to Diary of a Country Priest.
