Hey, he sounds better than Morrissey. No wonder he doesn't want to reform the Smiths. Looks like he's also finally stopped dying his hair black too. Good on Johnny Marr, I hope he refuses to reform the Smiths forever.andyman wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 12:00 pm I've never made it through a Smiths song (I can't stand Morrissey), yet this absolutely slaps:

32I like Morrissey's singing, but Johnny sounds great on this.andyman wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 12:00 pm I've never made it through a Smiths song (I can't stand Morrissey), yet this absolutely slaps:
Apparently Marr's out there singing the songs himself now, removing the biggest barrier to entry: Morrissey's voice.
Re: Good songs by bands you hate
33I like Morrissey's singing and The Smiths' original version, but I think this cover - and Marr's voice in particular - sounds awful, completely soulless and empty, so I guess that's all the major quadrants of take ticked off now.
Re: Good songs by bands you hate
34Jesus, that’s brilliant. I fucking hate Mozza’s voice and… him. Marr’s singing is way better on this than the Smiths version. I’d happily go to a Marr show just playing Smiths tunes.andyman wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 12:00 pm I've never made it through a Smiths song (I can't stand Morrissey), yet this absolutely slaps:

36Would go to see this live.. I don’t disagree that it’s a bit soulless but 1) it’s kind of the nature of the song and 2) it’s a recording without an audience.losthighway wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:12 pmI like Morrissey's singing, but Johnny sounds great on this.andyman wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 12:00 pm I've never made it through a Smiths song (I can't stand Morrissey), yet this absolutely slaps:

Instrumentation is spot-on.
Moz will be playing not far from me in Waukegan in a couple of months (assuming it is not cancelled) but I really have no interest in giving him my money.

38Morrissey tried to reunite The Smiths for a (cash-grab) tour next year, and Johnny posted a pic of Nigel Farage, basically telling Moz to fuck off. A true British treasure, that man.losthighway wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:12 pmI like Morrissey's singing, but Johnny sounds great on this.andyman wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 12:00 pm I've never made it through a Smiths song (I can't stand Morrissey), yet this absolutely slaps:

If JM does a Smiths tour, I'm there. This sounds great.
I'd rather be throwing darts.

39"Mile End" by Pulp. My wife loves this band so I get to hear them when we take her car. Other than this track I don't care for them at all.

40I really dislike Blur (hate is just for Coldplay and a couple artists more) but there's this track on Modern life is rubbish, can't remember the title of it, very shoegazey, vg.
