Oh, I fully believe that YT has invested in AI and is not going to do anything to risk that investment.Anthony Flack wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 4:18 pmCan't, or perhaps chooses not to. How many times have I told Youtube I don't want to see ads for that fucking mobile game where the doofy little warrior is put in a weird sexually-suggestive situation with a giant woman? I cannot make it stop. Just tell me to use Wix and shave my balls instead, I'm begging youWood Goblin wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 9:49 am It’s amazing that, as sophisticated as YouTube’s algorithm is, it still can’t tell what the dozens of blocked channels have in common.

I guess me and seby are the exact same age, I've only known one other person with that birth date.
+ HBD to seby & also to former FM zom-zom and & to the sadly departed Tito Jackson.

1836I'm reading an article on Sandy Hook right now. Alex Jones and his ilk need to meet the business end of a fuckin' axe.
I'd rather be throwing darts.

1838Yesterday, at the grocery store, I heard a Madonna song (“La Isla Bonita”). It was sandwiched between stuff like “Turn Me Loose” (also known as “The Loverboy Song You Forgot Existed Because It Isn’t ‘Working for the Weekend’”).
It made me realize how Madonna’s importance as a musical and cultural figure was pretty much limited to one generation. Given how controversial and inescapable she was in the 80s and 90s, it’s rather shocking to see how little purchase she has with younger generations. Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, and Metallica seem to have kept resonating or to be continually rediscovered. But Madonna? Does anyone under the age of thirty give a shit about “Like a Virgin”?

1839The other bands you've mentioned have more currency with the Tik Tok crowd, or, relevancy adjacent to other people culture trends. I'd argue that your average young person isn't finding out about the Mac by record digging but by scrolling. Madonna's music isn't on movies or hit tv shows. It's not ephemeral in that way. And, strictly speaking, musically her music is more sonically varied than the hitmakers of today.Wood Goblin wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:13 am It made me realize how Madonna’s importance as a musical and cultural figure was pretty much limited to one generation. 1840It makes me wonder whether it’s expensive to license Madonna songs. I remember once reading a movie director describing the insane prices Van Halen wanted to use their songs in movies—not just more than Zep, but a *lot* more.
So maybe Madonna isn’t catching on with the youngsters because “Open Your Heart” is too expensive for a Netflix budget?
