I responded with terse profanity, whereupon I was banned from the sub and got a week's site ban and a warning from a full mod. I told the site mod they could fuck all the way off and deleted my account. Every so often I will wish I could post to a thread I'm reading, but I'm over it, pretty much.
same here. i got banned for using a chatbot, which i can understand the concern but at least give me a warning first. i think i got banned for saying slut too.

I used to lurk in the horror in small doses group which previously was just members posting independent horror shorts, but has become so bogged down with ads it's become unmanageable for someone like myself. I do like the nosleep and let's not meet groups for horror stories. Used to own a band profile but never used it even while we were aggressively active. If reddit went away tomorrow I wouldn't notice. Since I'm left with the binary I'm voting Reddi-TURD but realize it has some value.

I am not a terminally online person, so it took me years to understand just what the fuck Reddit is. The interface has always been bad and the words "upvote" and "downvote" are fucking stupid, so it was something I could easily ignore. Plus, I'd always heard that it's a place for Nazis and incels. Once I really checked it out, I guess that's true, but just like the rest of the internet, if you mostly stick to your little corner of things you'll be fine. I subscribe to r/tacos and a couple grilling forums and check out a couple other things here and there. I've never posted nor commented and have found it to be the best resource for cooking-related info on the internet. The "am I the asshole" forums are a constant reminder that the institution of marriage should be abolished and the I Think You Should Leave and Lebowski groups are good for a laugh.

I’ll sometimes read threads that I find via Google, but now that I’m writing this, it’s occurring to me how little actual useful information I’ve found on Reddit. (Not zero, just little.) It’s the domain of Internet Experts.

I enjoyed FM Steve’s AMA.

Crap.

CRAP
"NOOOO my karma!"

Garbage website. Complete garbage. For me, Reddit is not even useful for niche technical/academic stuff (Stack Overflow is a better alternative). Though not without flaws (and it's a huge list), forums that were on non-social media websites were way more interesting, especially when they fostered communities such as EA or TwoPlusTwo. All the consolidation into a few websites and companies (Reddit, Facebook, Twitter/X, etc.) has thoroughly made the Internet worse, along with the corporate greed that they embolden and employ in order to make those sites operable, such as drama engagement for clicks/views. All of which encourages the worst kind of behaviors. There’s a reason why “the Redditor” is such an undesirable creep.

Being the OP, I've been dicking around on Reddit some more, and I still don't get it.

Some observations...
  • In the case of any speck of news dozens of posts on the exact same topic are raised and all get comments and all are upvoted
  • Old posts are buried for all eternity? No way to bump? Only the last 30 minutes seems to matter
  • Reddit psychology seems to actively reward shit posting of the "here's a picture of my dog with my new tattoo" variety
So in short is this just a website for people with short attention spans seeking validation.... or am I doing this wrong?
