Don't feel bad - this thread is now bumped, and more people will say more good things on it.

It's weird to see sensible people saying sensible things about how they love the Sex Pistols. It blows my mind, such a boring band, so beloved by non-boring people. I thought the Clash vs. Sex Pistols thread blew my mind, but this one blows my mind more (even though I like Clash better than Ramones). Dunno. At least the right choice is winning this poll.

Oh, and as for

Tell me - is basing your opinion of a band on what other people thought of that band a "punk" or "not punk" thing to do? Show your work.
Why do you make it so scary to post here.

I love the Ramones, but I couldn't do this one on points.

I first heard Never Mind the Bollocks in 1982. I still get goosebumps, literally, when I hear the beginning of almost any song on that record.

And, as noted, the live version of No Fun is something to which I keep coming back over the years.

There was something truly vicious and thrilling in their music that doesn't end up in most music.

Sex Pistols.

i'd take the clash self-titled over both. every other clash release, including london calling... no way, that music is garbage.

hey can someone recommend some good ramones songs that are more off the beaten path? for years i've only been familiar with the 20-something songs on the greatest hits, and rocket to russia. much of it sounded just about the same so i never got anything else. but everyone here is pretty darn enthusiastic about the ramones... recommendations, please?

Well..... if it's a straight up gang fight The Ramones win. Ever hear the story about Johnny Rotten being scared to meet them? He thought they were a street gang and would beat him up!!!
The Ramones win because they also had so many great ballads. The whole Phil Spector trip. Joey sounds like Elvis to me.
Honestly , the Ramones make the Sex Pistols sounds downright WHINY.
