Re: Little Details from Your Weekend

On Saturday night after work I found myself caught-up in the whirlwind of an influx of teenagers and a massive police presence. At first I didn't think much of it believing that a festival or some shit was happening, but as I made my way to the train groups of kids start running down the street. Like, hauling ass. Immediately I think shooter and get out of the fucking way, but I then notice a lot of kids laughing. OK, no shooter? Make my way to the train platform and begin to survey the chaos down below

The CTA suspended el service so I had to make my way to the subway. I'm fucking livid - yelling at kids and cops. I just wanted to go home. This morning I wake-up to the news that a couple of kids were injured by gunfire, various fighting, and tomfoolery. Immediately I remember walking by an Asian couple on their phone despondent about their car getting wrecked. Looked like a brick went right through their windshield.

I was a good kid but was also a little shit like most kids. Went to private school and hung with the metalheads. We got drunk, high, and tore shit up, occasionally, like the insouciant vandals we were. Never carried firepower, though, never got violent. And certainly never suspended public transportation, but now thinking about it it would've been kind of funny in that dick-teenager way of seeing the world.

It wasn't a great weekend. It saddened me. And to top it off I watched a live stream of Nonagon after I made it in, commenting on it even, thinking they were playing out-of-state when they were actually playing right down the street over in the next neighborhood 🙄

A good detail from the weekend is that I just caught an episode of The Twilight Zone on network TV that I'd never seen: The Rip Van Winkle Caper. What's odd is that I have the capacity to pretty much watch any TV presentation whenever I want, but there's something about just letting it happen that appeals to me.

Yeah. Unfortunately, someone has been sending in non-stop requests for Extreme.

At least it’s only every fifth song or so, with all of the other songs being requested by others.

And at least it isn’t “modern country”.

Past couple of days:

1) Parking ticket for being in a street cleaning zone in front of my house. The machine already had come past, twice, and I moved my car to the side for the next day's cleaning. Wait 20 minutes, no parking cop. Hop in shower. Get out of shower and lady is giving me a ticket. "The sign says 10-12." "Yes but I waited until he passed, twice, I was very careful." "I believe you, but we don't know when the cleaner came by."

There's this thing called a cell phone, that can literally track fucking anything, with pretty good accuracy, except when it comes to ballot harvesters, it's been said, then they're not so accurate.

LA just needs money because so many people here don't pay enough (or any) taxes.

2) Parking downtown. Private lot. Pay my $20 for 4 hours (certain neighborhoods just cannot be trusted after dark). Get back to the car and there's a ticket. I was 30 minutes over. Ticket, at a *private* lot is $63. Ahahahahahaha. Fuck you. It was $24 for a whole day. I wrote a check for $4 and mailed it, with a note that says I expect the ticket discharged and a receipt sent to my email. We'll see. I'm gonna hound these fucks until I get a receipt.

3) Drove to get some shoes and in one neighborhood there's a new traffic circle with motherfucking Stop signs at all four corners. WTFF.

4) Was trying to type "natty" into a wine related text and accidentally typed matty, and auto-correct took care of it. It's the end of the world.

5) Also, what's this bullshit about people retracting bids and not paying on eBay all willy-nilly. Are there no consequences for these now, other than my ass not getting paid? Back in my day, you bid, you bought, or there were consequences (bad feedback).

I've had a rash of unpaying buyers on ebay lately. They'll make an offer, I'll accept, they they ghost out and I'm stuck waiting for 3 days before I can relist.

Now Crüe.

Trying to remain optimistic.

The worst part is half the songs, they cheat and play on the computer (not on vinyl) with the accompanying video on a big screen. So I have to see the fucking hair metal bands too.
