Its been fine in the past, but I am trying to do a little more harmony stuff and it is harder with all the guitar mixing in. Is it worth thinking about a different mic or would it better serve me to just fuck with positioning?
Hypercardioid could help a lot. I use a cheap ATM 29HE at practice that I've had forever and it works well. I've also got an EV ND967, which is meant for loud live environments and has the "highest gain before feedback performance vocal microphone on the market". It's supercardioid. I've used it once or twice and it worked great, but I'm so used to the ATM it never made it into the regular setup.

My wife uses an old 58 and has a Twin on the floor behind her with the volume at 5 and it's not often that she gets feedback. Her mic is on a boom at about collarbone height with the mic pointed at an upward angle, not quite straight up. She sort of leans over it and also has good vocal control. I probably wouldn't be able to make that work myself.

Rereading your post, I get that the problem isn't feedback but unwanted guitar coming through the vocal mic. I still think trying something with better off-axis rejection than a 58 is a good move.

Agree with this, but temper expectations accordingly. Don't expect miracles. Sound in most of our rather small, possibly untreated (and even then) practice spaces is going to come from basically EVERYWHERE since we are all fans of the loud guitars.

Sennheiser 935 is a solid choice. The 945 is even tighter but you really have to eat that one.

If you really REALLY need this to be dead quiet when you're not singing, you'll need to get an IR gate to plug into the back of the mic. Those things are so effin cool, but not cheap.

While I have never actually used it myself, I have heard some folks mention the Audix OM5 when this scenario comes up.

Thanks all!

I am reading up on all the mic suggestions. Yeah, I don't need it to be dead quiet; and I am making due now, but if I could keep SOME unwanted bleed out it would be helpful.

Been playing bass into an uncool early 2000's Fender Bassman 400 Pro preamp section into a GK800RB's power amp section. I like it. BUT.....

I'm curious if that preamp profile is the classic Fender tone stack that is found in the Alembic F1X etc. that I can use in lieu of a big bulky head.

Alternatively I imagine there's an amp out there that does a similar thing to my janky setup but in one unit and probably sounds far better.

If there isn't, I'd hit up Dr. Balls to make it for you. Sell the Bassman to fund it.

I would highly doubt that the Fender Bassman 400 shares much similarity with the Alembic F1X. For one thing its solid state, but even then probably much more complex. If one wanted to make a solid state pedal sized thing (a la Rusty Box) to pair with a power amp that's plenty doable. Even making a tube preamp would be feasible.

The RustyBox and to a slightly lesser degree Boxidizer have been extremely useful little tools as DI for bass and keys for me. I would still love a Tube B15N style preamp in a box if I could get my hands on one.
