i'll start out by saying that i vote CRAP.
no question about it for me. i agree with whoever brought up the whole issue of it being labled punk when its actually just mediocre fast-pop. like come on man, my grandmothers hair was more punk rock than these guys.

though there is this one thing:
there was this one bassline that always got me.
what was the song called..'desperations gone' i think.

but still it doesnt make up for the who knows how much shit these phonys have put out

total trash.

The new live album and the last studio album have been way below the bar, but I vote not crap when looking at the entire career. I would say their artistic peak is the Decline which is fantastic as noted by a previous poster.

I can see why lots of people don’t care for their music or even more so the army of imitators they spawned, but I think one has to respect their integrity throughout their nearly 25 year history. Back in the early 1990’s when major labels were looking to market punk to the masses NoFX made the conscience decision to never put music out on a major label, make videos for Mtv or try to get on commercial radio. They could have taken Green Day’s place if they wanted, but they chose to just work within punk rock world albeit becoming one of the best selling bands in the genre (over 6 million records sold worldwide according to wikipedia). Also their politics have remained consistent and something I can support. Punk Voter did not keep Bush out of the Whitehouse in 2004, but it was an honest and noble effort.

Also the record label Fat Mike founded, Fat Wreck Chords, has put out some really good albums in between the mediocre paint by numbers punk they have also released. I had personal friends who released a record on Fat Wreck and they have nothing, but positive things to say about the staff and how they were treated.

I have heard the very same thing.

Propagandhi
J-Church
Descendents
Dillinger Four
Lagwagon
NUFAN
Screeching Weasel
Screw 32
Strung Out
Face to Face.

Not a bad roster in the mid-'90s.

It is also worth noting that Fat Wreck has a strict policy against multi-album deals thereby not trying to take draconian control of artists’ careers and discography. They prefer instead to do a good job selling/marketing records and treating musicains with respect so they choose to release subsequent albums on Fat on their own volition rather than fear of lawsuit.

I am totally baffled by the posters who claim NoFX is not punk. The people in that band have been well immersed in the punk rock scene going back to the dawn of the 1980’s in addition to their sound and ethics. It just seems irrational criticism despite the instinctual and predictable distaste the indie-math-nerd crowd would exhibit towards the band in question.
