A few years back, I was talking with an old friend of mine. She told me that when she was 14, her boyfriend convinced her to shoot up. She tried it twice. She never dabbled again, luckily. Far be it for me to judge her for youthful mistakes, but I never really got over hearing that. It was as if she decided to stare death in the face and think nothing of it.
The same could be said of another aquaintence of mine who decided to snort heroin at a party a couple years ago. As he put it, "OK, I'm really gonna do this. Think about what you're about to do." Somehow, he decided it was the right idea.
It astonishes me how perfectly reasonable people (or people who I had previously perceived as reasonable) could make a conscious decision, with all their knowledge of the drug, to go ahead and do it.
Crap. One of the worst substances ever to percolate into society.

It ruined their life but their life wasn't much to begin with anyway.
Much of what you wrote echo my sentiments from a few posts back, so obviously we're on the same page.
However, this paragraph deserves a re-read. Well put.

Of the people I know who have done it, probably one percent have not gotten sucked into it's sadistic maelstrom of despair.
The other 99 percent or so have gotten some life-threatening disease or another, mostly HIV. Most of them were talented, smart people who had either some fucked up romantic notions, or serious mental health issues that could have been handled with some therapy or pharmaceuticals.
Most definitely CRAP.

The one time I tried it, it made me nod off in the middle of seeing Squarepusher live. Regardless of your individual feelings on Squarepusher this was a giant drag at the time. I have had two friends use it for a while and not die, and one used it for a while and died of something inexplicable but unrelated (per toxicity report). So I call this drug crap.

From my one Squarepusher gig attendance, I would say this is quite impressive.
