the intelligent way to solve this for those confused would be to compare the live albums.
it's no contest.
Either-Or: Mission of Burma vs. The Birthday Party

23Birthday Party. Easy.
This is my feeling eventhough Nick Cave has since done almost nothing of interest to me and MoB have just reformed in order to create some truly excellent new music. MoB and Wire are the only bands with that kind of resume.

agreed.
"from her to eternity," "your funeral my trial," and "the first born is dead" are great.
i love "kicking against the pricks" too.

27From Her To Eternity is watered down Birthday Party. I own it and even listen to it on occasion, but it doesn't really hit me where I live. 'Your Funeral, My Trial' is average by my reckoning. After that I can't find a pulse.
Either-Or: Mission of Burma vs. The Birthday Party
28The Birthday Party in 1982 were as ferociously psychotic a spectacle as I will ever live to see on a stage. Sure, Mission of Burma were terrific and are still really, really good, but come on. The Birthday Party.
Junkyard performed on a German TV show, 1982 (Youtube).

you're not listening right.
listen to the control of tension in the title track, cabin fever, and st. huck. it has more dynamic than the birthday party.
the rest is a little more melodic than the birthday party.
not finding a pulse means you're looking in the wrong place. because it sure as shit ain't dead.
Either-Or: Mission of Burma vs. The Birthday Party
30To very different bands, but I'd go with the demented feel of The Birthday Party.
