Thank you sir.
Had I known about this I would have attempted it. As it was, I got the last of my tomatoes to turn red in paper bags and canned a bunch of red sauce last weekend.
Say hi to Mr. Sieracki for me, since I seem to be incapable of doing it myself.

Cake (the band) gets a hearty "whatever" from me. Cake has never elicited any overly positive or negative response from me. Actually, I can recall the melody and mood of that "Frank Sinatra" song as I sit here. I might even like that song. But Cake is certainly nowhere close to my idea of rock, at least when listened to outside of The Gap.
Here's the deal. When I think of Cake, I think of Soul Coughing. I HATE Soul Coughing. That band makes me angry in my insides and my brains. I hate the band name, the idea of the band, the material, the execution, the lame-ass clever-clever college radio crowd that was attracted to them -- the works. I hate 'em. Soul Coughing is as complete of a hateable package as, say, The Eagles or White Zombie, if simply less ubiquitous.
So Cake, if only by comparison to Soul Coughing, doesn't seem so bad. Plus, Cake has a record called "Comfort Eagle", which I think is a funny title for a record. But whatever.
Now to the matter at hand -- pie vs. cake. They both lose. The winner? The butter cookies at the Swedish Bakery in Andersonville. I will not accept false dichotomies in the vitally important realm of confections, my friends, and you shouldn't either.

23You dont understand the delacacy of such confections as the rasperry, apple, strawberry rhubarb and banana cream pie, truly D-liscious treats. Shame on you for saying they both lose

Oh, I understand delicacies, my brother.
But you see. No one has to choose in the world of sweets. We all win.
There they sit. Waiting for you. No choice to be made. Eat 'em all. Win.
But the Swedish Bakery butter cookie still takes the prize.
Goddam. Butter cookies and Coca-Cola. Walking through Andersonville. Around Christmastime.
Goddam.

John, here is Adrienne's recipe:
:: Green Tomato Pie ::
In a bowl, mix together the following:
~ 2 cups of diced green (unripe red) tomatoes (firmer ones are better)
1 cup of brown sugar
3 tablespoons of minute tapioca
juice of 1 lemon and its grated rind (optional)
~ 1/2 cup of golden raisins
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of allspice
minced candied ginger (1-2 pieces)
Line a pie pan with bottom pie crust. Spoon in above mixture. Cover with top pie crust and seal edges. Cut a few slits into top crust, brush with soymilk (or regular milk) and sprinkle lightly with sugar. Place pie into preheated 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Lower heat to 350 degrees and cook pie for an additional 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cover outer edge of pie crust with foil when it just starts to brown (to prevent burning).
Enjoy!

Consider it done.

29Although pie is more reliable,
cake is more apt for the inclusion of chocolate.
Based on this distinction, my tasters sacrifice regular doses of very good pie for the superior combination of chocolate and cake.

30Top 5 pies:
1. Coconut cream pie--Dixie Pan restaurant, Nortonville, Kentucky.
2. Peanut butter pie--the now-defunct Main Street Cafe, Hopkinsville, KY.
3. Derby pie--made my mom.
4. Blackberry pie--made by me.
5. Pumpkin pie--made by my grandma.
If my Great Aunt Rosalie was still alive, I'd have voted cake, but nobody can reproduce the magic of her angelfood cake.
