I had a dollar and access to a juke box on Monday night...I played "Fuck Tha Police" while my friends were setting up onstage. I enjoyed myself thoroughly...giggling to myself while they put up their equipment. It was like drawing a penis on a desk in 8th grade...punky satisfaction.

I don't listen to much rap, but when I do, I play one of those guys. Like a lot of music, rap is 95% crap, with a healthy, smart 5%.

Atmosphere? Are you some lame-o Minnesota kid? Fuck Atmosphere's white-bred bullshit. Atmosphere is as lame as Eminem...and Eminem is at least still "clever." Very "serious" white rappers are loathesome types. Ever been to a white rapper concert? Holy shit...the word "misguided" comes to mind...

Good hip-hop?

-N.W.A.
-Public Enemy

That's pretty much the shit. There's more before and after, but that early '90s hip-hop period is where "impressive" begins and "good" ends.

One of the best posts ever....almost too funny and absolutely true.

Like most music, rap can be good and it can be bad. I've been getting into a number of rap/hip-hop artists for the first time in years. I've found a lot of good music!

Interesting though how the industry is under fire after the whole Imus thing. Curious to see if anything comes of it, though I suspect nothing will.

most of this thread is worse than the boobs thread. hip-hop is not crap, but as with anything you must be discriminating, otherwise you are not a proper audiophile. if you voted crap, you are also not a proper audiophile--there's just no excuse for a crap vote. voting crap: crap.

Know what I have against rap?

The Ying Yang Twins.

Ugh.

Putting aside the disgusting misogyny, the lack of talent, the boring beats, let's just focus on the fact that whenever they get on a track it sounds kind of like someone decided it would be a great idea to let their cousin with Downs take sixteen bars.

Some good choices in there, and I was just going to point out: Rock music probably follows the same percentages. How many bands that play rock music are actually good? Far and few between. That is all. Thank you for your time.
