I've only owned one motorcycle. It was an underpowered piece of shit, and it was great. It was a motorcycle!

I plan on owning another, less underpowered piece-of-shit motorcycle one day. The bicycle, meanwhile, is of the most beautiful and efficient machines ever bestridden. I have never in my life used this awful word, bestridden.

The greatest (and fastest) motorcycle I've ridden belonged to a guy named "Dirty Roger." It's the exact Moto Guzzi seen here at Roger's place. Admittedly I was drunk, but this bike felt fast as fuck.

Motorcycles I like, at least they can sound visceral, plus they're pant-shittingly exciting to be on. It's scooters that annoy me, fucking hell. We've got a squadron of teenies who drive up and down the main street, hunched over the front of the moped in a vain attempt to get over 45mph, engines "roaring" like a bunch of wasps in a can. It's beyond irritating when you're trying to get to sleep.

see also: ambulances/police sirens (Wimbledon filth having recently adopted some mad system that alternates randomly between 5 kinds of equally infuriating tones), and drunks.

Motorcycles, scooters, bicycles are not crap. Fun as hell when ridden responsibly and great for traffic congestion and gas consumption.
It all depends on the rider. Take a couple courses, ride safely, wear a real helmet and good jacket, etc.

Every couple weeks in Atlanta you hear about some assclown on a crotch rocket wearing a half helmet and sneakers running into a tractor-trailer while doing a wheelie at 130mph and killing himself. This of course on a crowded rush hour highway. Idiots.

Also, people here are deathly afraid to pass someone riding a bicycle on the side of the road. Really, it's not that hard.

I just finished taking a motorcycle safety class. Everyone who passed the riding test will get a motorcycle endorsement for their drivers licenses.

Not everyone passed.

I had never even touched a bike before Friday. Most of the others taking the class had been riding for a while, but were taking the class to get the necessary endorsement. I would have felt more comfortable if I had been surrounded by other total novices.

After about six hours of riding yesterday, I didn't think I'd pass the riding test, but I improved dramatically today and would now feel comfortable riding to work and back after a few more weeks of practice in my neighborhood.

I'm glad I did it. Riding is fun - when you're not being asked to make 135 degree turns through traffic cones and execute figure 8's in small spaces. I'm not sure if a bike is in my near future, though, as I'd rarely get a chance to ride anywhere because my work requires a car.
