so why do you like this decemberists band? assuming you feel as strongly as it appears? tell me something. engage me in something that gives me something to chew on...

The forum is called Crap/Not crap, and NOT I'm OK/You're ok.

And it's a good thing too. Whether it's music, politics, or anything else, some things need to be called out as CRAP, as opposed to "not preferable."

even in the face of great numbers of ea posters that seem to see otherwise, it would be good to hear an elaboration on your opinion. instead of just trolling and calling people idiots.

if think something's not crap and you care enough to post, give a reason that engages some brain activity.

when you say "most people" do you mean "most of their fans?" are you being self-deprecating by saying something is good because it is "overtly literate and pretentious"

you are a hard one to read, cervix. clear as mud. i'm fucking confused.

well, unless i missed something i dont think anyone has posted anything saying that the decemberists are:

a. NOT guitar based pop music.
b. NOT melodic.
c. NOT pretentiously literate.

you asked why i liked them and i told you. i dont know how to expound on it any further. i like the verbose lyrics because they generally capture my interest. colins voice was grating at the first few listens but i dont mind it too much anymore. as you can tell, im not that good at engaging brain activity from anyone including myself.

i can definitely see how they might come across as boring at times. i never got the impression they were trying that hard to be ironic or funny. i have to admit that ive never read any interviews or heard any of the band members talk about their music. i think colin had a blog going for awhile in a magazine (magnet?) and i seem to remember him not taking anything too seriously.

OK, I just checked out the record with the sailboats on it.

I've heard other bands doing this kind of thing, and those bands are perhaps more interesting. Milieu has a lot to do with it.

I think I can say that "I just dont care for the Decemberists take on that kind of music"

(A long shot here: A parallel can be made with the progression in "Grunge" bands-
Pearl Jam>Stone Temple Pilots>Collective Soul>Creed.

...to the Parallel Universe of late 90's to 00's "Sensitive Indie Pop" bands
Belle and Sebastian>Death Cab>Prom>Decemberists.)

Therefore, the argument could be made that the Decemberists have as much validity to the world of Indie Pop and Creed does to Grunge.

Validity, originality and visceral appeal aside, I don't dig them much.

CRAP.
