Either-Or: Cats vs Dogs

I always wanted a dog and got one at 31 (lab), got away from my wife at the front door as an agressive one year old and got hit by a truck. That fucking sucked! We currently have two cats, very typical to there sex. The female is about nine and very clean tidy and loving. She was so freakd out on the ride home when we got her as a kitten, I clenched her to keep her from scratching my wifes eyes out, about half way home she relaxed and trusted me. I basically got a friend for life right then and there, she is a great cat. The other one is a male that just showed up a couple falls ago. We see a lot of farm cats wandering around out here cause we live in da sticks, but this one didn't go home. After some unthreatening encounters I let it in, it looked cold. I leave the house really early for work some days and my wife was pretty freaked when she first saw Gus, but he now lives with us. He is a dirty, loud, and self-centered animal but he is ours. He had a "lampshade" on his head for a few weeks cause he kept irritating a wound he had on his chest he recieved from fighting a racoon in the garage. Scratched the shit out of the Vet on that visit. Doesn't cover his shit either, and he can drop some piles.

Call them needy, compare them to mentally challenged humans, say that they're too much trouble, fine. But you can't deny that dogs are fantastic animals. They are loyal and loving creatures. They're only truly happy when they are working. It is in they're nature to want to do something. I dig all animals, but cats are basically selfish and solitary creatures. That's cool.
But show me a feline that helps the handicapped, or a shepard, or a hunter, or a rescue search, etc. So many things to list.

Cat's are cute, low maintenance and amusing. But I can guarantee that my dog will not shit on my bed. I've never been able offer this guarantee with any cat that I've owned. There's no surprise like an unnecessary greasy cat turd on your bed.
