In my sleep, homie

Olivia Newton John - Have You Never Been Mellow
Rita Coolidge - We're All Alone
Lou Rawls - Lady Love
Little River Band - Reminiscing
Player - Baby Come Back
Alan Parsons Project - Don't Answer Me

Robbie Dupree - Steal Away
Barbra Streisand w/Barry Gibb - Guilty
Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are
Kool and the Gang - Joanna
Franki Valli - My Eyes Adored You
Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better

Bonus Tracks

Beverly Bremers - Don't Say You Don't Remember
Air Supply - Lost In Love
Carpenters - I Need To Be In Love
Elton John - The One*

*From the early 90's but it's such a beautiful song I had to include it.
Damn, a lot of good artists/songs I hadn't taken into account... (yet).

Finding the right Streisand tune was challenging. Like, "Superman" is tops in my world, but trying to strictly adhere to the atmosphere of soft rock sent me to her 1980's gem of a record with Barry Gibb, Guilty.

I’ve been listening to everything on my own mix tape and now want to remove that Level 42 song. It’s pretty bad.

Also, “Steppin’ Out” is totally soft rock, so don’t try to argue that one. It’s the missing link between Steely Dan and Bruce Hornsby.

Fun fact/dork brag: For years I could play a note for note rendition of Phil Woods's sax solo on that song. Someone thought it was a level of smooth jam excellence that demanded sheet music. If you listen carefully you can hear Woods was a student of Paul Desmond and Stan Getz, which makes sense if you want smoothness to be your most salient musical attribute.

This isn't even my area of expertise and even I know such a playlist must include "Dancing In The Moonlight":

This ^^^ song rips!

There is a scene in Todd Solondz's Happiness where Jane Adams's character is being wooed by a Russian taxi driver. He whips out an acoustic guitar and starts playing "You Light Up My Life" while she looks-on all googly-eyed. Cracked me tf up.

What I'm trying to say is that if someone attempted to woo me with the sax solo from "Just The Way You Are" I'd get married so hard. Not enough wooing via song performance these days.

And "Dancing in the Moonlight" is a perfect song.

Followed by an all-time great line after he's fucked her.

'I go now.'

Great scene and yes, cracks me up.

Took my then-bf to watch it in a theater. Elementary school teacher. Ginger. We didn't last.
