kurt cobain did this too occasionally, didn't he?
i remember three things.

i remember watching videos of live performances and stuff and always wondering why what he was playing looked nothing like the chords i played for the same songs...not like they're too difficult or anything...

i also remember reading somewhere that he would take old univox guitars and flip them over....back before the "jagstang" was made.

i also remember that once i was in barnes & noble and couldn't help but glance through those journals released a year ago...one thing that caught my attention was a page of chord charts he had written that had fingerings for a leftie playing a rightie guitar. i thought that was pretty neat.

When I saw the Wrens play, their bassist/pianist is lefty, but he played a right handed bass flipped upside down. The strap seemed very awkward, though, as if it was about to fall off. I didn't notice which way it was strung.

He would occasionally throw it over the crowd while holding onto the strap. A "rockstar" thing to do for sure, but it was pretty cool. It looked pretty dangerous though.

Hendrix and Cobain were both left handed, and because left handed guitars are often not available, they would string a right handed guitar backwards and play it like a normal left handed guitar.

Interestingly, Nels Cline is left handed but plays guitar like he was right handed.

Also, Elvin Jones shouldn't be refered to in the past tense. I saw him at jazzfest 3 years ago.

and oh yeah, not crap, i mean cmon.

Not crap in any way, even when letting Noel write AND sing a crappy song on Are You Experienced. Still, not crap at all. And I am sorry, The Experience any day over Band of Gypsies. You can't mess with Mitch Mitchell. I mean, come on! Buddy Miles went on to be the voice of the California Grapes, for gawd sake!

OK, on to my left handed guitarist story...

I used to go to those humongous guitar shows when I was in high school. I can not remember why. Oh yeah, I suck. Anyway, once I saw this big crowd of total guitar homos (they each looked totally pitiful, a lot like...me) all crowding around someone so I went to check it out. It was Elliot Easton of The Cars fame and he was going from booth to booth desperately looking for a lefty guitar to 'jam' on for the fans. It was hilarious! He was getting frantic as the crowd kept hounding him to 'shake it up' and...um...(insert other Cars song title quip here). The crowd got louder and even got a bit angry having to follow him for so long without hearing and 'tasty licks'. He must have gone to twenty booths before he found a guitar strung up lefty. By then I had peed myself laughing and had to excuse myself from the proceedings.

True story.

no, no, no

Jimi Hendrix was a hippy, he played hippy music for hippies
He may have been left handed but so was Paul McCartney
There are some cool hippies, Arthur Lee is one, but not Jimi Hendrix
The songs are too long and boring.

ok, there IS the multi-chicks "experienced" sleeve
ok.

you can re-read my posts calmly: I don't like Macca either (of course) and also you can research my thoughts on the beatles by looking at the "favorite beatle" thread

quick, I have to find a left-handed musician that I like...

mmm, Dee Dee Ramone ? wasn't he left-handed ?

Dee Dee played a powerful, primal bass. He co-founded the band in 1974 and remained until 1989. Not only was he the main lyricist, but he also came up with the name of the band, inspired by the Paul McCartney pseudonym, Paul Ramon.

the mind boggles
