i think these guys are alright. they have good sensibility and some downright brilliant hooks. not great, but NOT CRAP as well.

i agree with sock monkey about the bullshit hype, but i disagree about their look. i kinda like it. especially that bass player who looks like an s.s. soldier (i think it's his haircut). when i see them i think back to when i read something where lawrence hayward of felt said it's more importatnt to look good than sound good, and despite disagreeing with him i have to admit, i can appreciate style. the only qualms i have in this respect are that dude's sideburns, those are fucking unforgivable.

While I'm at work, there's 'Much Music' playing in the background all the time. Every couple of days I'll catch a video that's pretty cool and I'll stand around and watch for the three or so minutes. INTERPOL has a pretty cool video for 'Evil'. This alone brought me to the point of wanting to listen to the full album (Antics), which I did. It sounds like Joy Division vocally, but I'm not willing to condemn it yet, 'cause I LIKE 'Joy Division'. They've got some pretty good hooks, lyrics, and I like the recording style on Antics. No, Interpol are not timeless or original, but if some of the people that fall for the hype are drawn to this style of music and happen to pick up 'Substance' they'll see the truth and be much better off. As for me, I'm now inspired to hear some of the other bands that have been compared to them. So... There is a place for these bands that wear their influences on their shoulder! My vote is not crap. 6/10 if you will...

I like 'em. A fair amount.

First album I liked plenty.

Second album I liked a bit.

Interesting rhythm-section.

Yeah, they're derivative, but then so are plenty of bands that are popular on this board.

NOT CRAP.

Interpol had a day?

Thursday 11th March 2001 was National Interpol Day.

It wasn't as good as National Slayer Day will be.

He went to bed about a decade ago, or whenever he sold his soul to the bankers and the elites.
