Talk here of a 45rpm double LP reissue of Taking Tiger Mountain half-speed mastered at Abbey Road had me wondering if Another Green World has received the same treatment. Turns out . . . yes! Yes, it has. Surprised no one told me about this! Copy ordered.

Another Green World has always been my favorite Eno outing. As a junior in high school first dipping his toes into ambient music, I got this LP in a lot of other Eno stuff. It was one of the least stereotypically “ambient”/ethereal of them, but I liked it the most for its diversified instrumental palette. It boasts more than a few great songs. “In Dark Trees” is haunting music that could play on the soundtrack of that all too rare great creepy movie. “The Big Ship” and “Golden Hours” are colorfully sublime—way ahead of their time. I could go on but don’t need to here.

Anyway, listened to this LP several weeks back and my copy from the seventies, while endowed with good enough depth/sound stage/whatever, has its share of surface noise. It’s not unlistenable but also far from ideal. I’m not a super fussy audiophile/sound snob type, but usually if a record has endured and then some in one’s personal canon, it’s worth hunting down the best available copy (within reason).

That run of '70s Eno albums is truly great.

Have got most of them, and yes, that's correct. Also like some things after that--the song "Stiff" especially, The Shutov Assembly, etc.

But where his or anybody else's more ethereal ambient music goes, I almost always prefer the format to be digital and not vinyl. I own and buy lots of ambient recordings, from different eras and all around the world, but like to be able to drift off to the music/possibly fall asleep/not be conscious of a record ending or needing to be flipped over.

That makes sense. I've yet to check out Eno's ambient stuff.

Put the lync reissue on my TT, changed the belt for 45 rpm.

Have to say it's mindblowing how good it sounds compared to my old 328kb burnt cd.

As long as I can read what the album side is without holding the bloody disc up the light at an angle I’m good.

Seriously if you have ever released a record like this ask yourself why.

OMFG I hate this so much. Also the intended speed. Bands that don't do that can fuck off.

Yep. It’s not clever or cool. It’s just fucking annoying.

Also specifying gloss card on the inside of the sleeves so you damage the slip case every time you put the record back.

Talking to you My Bloody Valentine

I always laugh and shake my head in disappointment when a "remastered half-speed 2 x 45 whatever" is packaged in paper inner sleeves, too. Fuckinghell. Tells me it's just a cash grab. Use static-free poly lined inner sleeves, folks. Thanks.

The 45rpm double LP of Another Green World checks out. Haven't been able to give it my undivided attention yet, but did listen to a couple of tracks a few days back and yeah, it sounds very good.
