i'v see interpole on stage one time, 2 or 3 years ago, they where on tour with girls vs boys, interpole made the openning, thay played a regular show,clean,good students, after that their roadies clean the stage and gvsb came on stage carriing theyr own materiel, make a line ckeck of 5 minutes leave for 2 minutes and play 1 hours a fucking good show.......

No it doesn't. What separates Interpol from the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and numerous other derivative post-punk revival bands is that Carlos D and Sam Fogarino are awesome. Much of the basslines and drumming on the first album are as good as anything Les Pattinson and Pete de Freitas ever did. No other neo-new wave act gets into as good a groove as "Specialist" or "NYC." In particular, the bass playing on "Obstacle 1" is awesome. Every time I hear this song, the rhythm section (and the "rhythm guitar") makes me smile so hard that I almost stop hearing the retarded lyrics and the really expensive suits they wore when they recorded the song.

Yes, Paul Banks is 95 percent of the time a ham. Yes, Carlos D once said that he "can't respect a man who doesn't know how to dress" or something. Yes, their videos are awful. But until Antics came out, Interpol was one of my favorite bands of this decade.

Everyone is too cool to like a band like Interpol, whether they realize it or not. Interpol's smoothed-out post-consumer recycled material content is too high. I could deal with the suits and hair if they had anything interesting going on.

This statement is very true. I can't seem to get into that newer album.

The first Interpol album is REALLY good. I love Steve Albini and Dave Yow and Joy Division and Sonic Youth and The Fall and all the other "required listening" bands for this forum and don't understand the basis about half of the responses in this thread. You should never have to excuse yourself for liking a song, or prove that even though you like it you think the guys involved in making it are assholes.

Of course Interpol is questionable in their fashion choices and self-promotion. Everyone knows that. But that first record isn't "100% crap" and the perception that it isn't even listenable sounds like complete hipster bullshit to me -- even if it doesn't do anything for you, there's no way it could or should be lumped in with Franz Ferdinand and the Killers and all those hack acts. The difference being that at least Interpol is trying to make good music.

(pretend I posted this before the 2nd lp came out because it was horrible and actually did tread in franz ferdinand/killers territory)

I didn't mention ANY reasons for not liking the song. The dislikeable aspects of Interpol's music and presentation considered as a whole have already been exhaustively covered. There is just so much better stuff to listen to that it's kind of annoying to see this kind of thing get so much recognition.

I guess that's reasonable. But I also dont pay attention to Pitchfork or any of that shit at all so I could see getting more irritated by them if I heard they were BRILLIANT all the time or whatever they're thought of now. Despite how much I like Bright Lights I'll be the first to admit it's basically a mopey derivative mix between Echo and Television.
