this past Friday, I went to Philadelphia to see Kowloon Walled City. they were tremendous. the venue was a little weird, not much of a PA, so I think it was just vocals, kick and snare in the PA - stage volume for guitars and bass. they had it dialed in perfectly. magnificent -just the edge of breakup- tones. super loud, but clean. bass tone is not to be believed, as it loaded up the room perfectly. scott is an incredible performer, and plays possibly the prettiest telecaster I have ever seen. and it was all over by 940, so I got home at a reasonable hour. the absolute dominance and command of the room was impressive. go see them if you can.
Caught them in Pittsburgh; can confirm. Best dudes.
I was there as well! Great show--my first show as an audience member since Om in March 2020.
It was my first show in pandemic times as well. It felt awkward at first but I settled in pretty quickly.
Bonus points for the greasy calzone from the place across the street.

I think I'm reaching the end of my rope living in The Midwest. The few things that brought me back/kept me hangin on have pretty much dissipated post-Covid, and I feel miserable about 75% of the year.
The PNW can be grey and shitty too, but it seems like there's more payoff to it. I dunno..

I’m with you there. April in particular is almost always a disappointment.
As much as some of the politics scare me there, I foresee becoming a Florida man at some point in the future.

Have had a busy, productive week with a fair amount of interactions pleasant in nature. Some tedium, some bickering (with family), a lot of physical exertion, but also a certain satisfaction in getting things done. Not ready to resume work on any big projects yet, but it's nice to get some stuff out of the way.
Among the highlights: while sifting through a dusty little cache of 45s my family bought for cheap at a local yardsale several years ago, I found a vintage VG-ish copy of The Winstons' "Amen, Brother." Put it on the turntable, and the dog got way into it, rolling around on the floor and such. So at some point I might play him some jungle/drill-and-bass shit and see if he takes a shine to it.

I am in Boston for work. My first trip to Boston was 25 years ago. It was also my first flight at the age of 21. I also had my first martini on that trip as it was to attend a conference of the Materials Science and Engineering Society and I, being a virgin and a physicist in training, felt I should have a drink that would mark the importance of the occasion. I had little history of drinking alcohol at the time and assumed based on pictures I had seen of my long-deceased maternal grandfather that people who stood next to important people like generals and astronauts would drink martinis. I did not enjoy it. I also realized quickly that drinking a martini in a cheap suit from Penney’s made me look like a complete dipshit. Or really drinking a martini in any outfit would make me look like a dipshit. Anyway, I am again in Boston. For work, but not science work anymore. I may get to see a game at Fenway before I leave on Thursday if I can convince my boss that it is a worthwhile bonding experience with the person up here that is on my work team. It will sadly, at the age of almost 46, be the first real ballpark I have ever been to.

I get tense everytime I see police. I have no immediate reason to. I just don't like them and I don't trust them.

I know this is obvious, but just to say it anyway: It is completely understandable and appropriate to be tense when you see someone who can legally and easily ruin, hurt, or kill you with almost no meaningful consequences.
