i find myself growing bored with most of the UK punk bands (sex pistols (although i never actually liked them), buzzcocks, joy division etc etc) with the exception of the fall and mekons (although i usually don't lump the latter into the 70s UK punk scene because they're so much more). 80s american 'hardcore' punk has minutemen, which means they win by default.

I'll make it meaningful:

Third World War v Stooges : US
This Heat v Television : UK
Sex Pistols v Ramones : US
Throbbing Gristle v Suicide : US
Crass v Bad Brains : US
Rudimentary Peni v Void : US
Flux of Pink Indians v Die Kreuzen :US
Pil v MX80 : UK
Gang of Four v Sonic Youth : UK
Mekons v Minutemen : US
Discharge v Black Flag : UK
Membranes v Volcano Suns : US
Joy Division v Gang Green : UK

Oh fuck it.

I own every Birthday Party record. They are a good band.

I would happily pitch my Birthday Party records in a fire if I were forced to choose between them and the Bad Brains.

The Fall vs. Void: Yanks win, 4-4

I have never heard this "Void". They must be the greatest band in The Universe if they are listed as winning over the Fall.

This is an entirely unfair task of judgement. This match-up to me is more of a contest that goes 16+ innings at 0-0, and which is ultimately called on account of rain.

whoa whoa.

two great albums vs. 25 years of almost-always-relevant music?

surely you mean the ramones fellah.

I put the Pistols and Ramones at a tie. It's like arguing over "who invented calculus, Newton or Leibnitz?" It's pointless.

I have not been excited by Sonic Youth since Daydream Nation. Ganf of Four kickstart an erection everytime the iPod serves them up.

I will take the erection over "Star Power is a pretty great song".

I don't hate you for feeling different or anything tho. ^_^

haha, that's fine.

it has to be said though, gang of four 'evolved' into one of the worst bands of all time ca 1982/83.
