In any case, Romney could win a national election against Hillary. I don't think he would, but he could, and here's how -- the base on the right will be mobilized to vote against Hillary regardless of what Romney represents, so Romney repositions himself over the center to all those people who aren't the slightest bit familiar with him. Which is still a lot of people.
I agree with all of this.
There are a lot of important Republican Party members and conservative commentators who despise John McCain and will never get behind him. I expect the backlash to start in full force immediately.
Hillary Clinton is the one person who can unify the Republican Party, which is right now trying to figure out who it hates the least. And, seriously, an unnamed corpse (or Mitt Romney) could beat The Hillatron among independent voters in a general election.
