Looked up the dress thing and I don't believe the official announcement. There's no way that kind of deep azure blue can look like white. No way.

This made me laugh more than it had right to.

Without having watched it or being deeply familiar with the source material, I instinctively feel the casting in the new Lord of the Rings series does deserve some criticism. Given the pretty obvious racial symbolism in the elves vs. the other peoples, it could be argued that casting non-white actors as elves is a kind of white-washing, ironically.
