MILFORD< LEARN HOW TO EMBED LINKS.

I owned an earlier red version Puch, a mid-50s I think, when I was 13. I bought it from a neighbor who was cleaning out his barn for $50. Getting parts, pre-internet, was almost impossible, but still I managed to make it run for 3 glorious weeks one summer. My father had been killed in a motorcycle accident four years before that, so I had to keep the bike hidden from my mother- the thought of her baby boy on a motorcycle would have driven her mad. Storing it in the woods behind my house and using the wrong kind of gas took its toll on the carb, as did me not having any idea how to work on it. What a beautiful motorcycle that was- red, white and chrome. I wish I could beat the shit out of my 13 year old self for destroying it.

motorcycles=not crap. No WF.

This past year the amount of small motorcycles and scooters has really risen dramatically around this town. You think they're all egomaniacs? That the expensive parking downtown has nothing to do with it?

You obviously have some weird deep-seated hatred of motorcyclists. You would be best off to not bother looking at motorcycle threads of any sort.

scooter ABSOLUTELY NOT = motorcycle

does your honda have a "my other bike is a KICK ASS CLASSIC BMW THAT FUCKS HOT BITCHES" bumber sticker on it?

its a crap/not crap thread so... suggesting not looking at it is kinda the opposite of the intent of the thread.

one thing that is very common here in nor cal is a lil traffic on the 280/380 as you near serramonte... perfect 4-5highway time for MOTORCYCLE WHEELIES!!!!!! woot look at me doing a wheelie like a 8 year old! WHEEE EEVERYONE LOOK AT ME ON A MOTORCYCLE !!!! ;)

Then of course there is the laughable hard ass chinese crotch rocket starbucks "gang". that all sit around looking at each other's cocks outside the starbucks for hours on end w/ their bikes parked there.

And of course the worst case scenario, where I used to live in the city (SF) up by the top of ocean beach.... sundays , i think it was 1nce a month for every fuckhead in the world who has a motorcycle, of course having a motorcycle and enjoying it isnt enough. Its imperative that you find others who also have a motorcycle, like 500 others and ride around on a sunday together to make it extra loud and attention getting.

Man one of the few things I don't miss about that neighborhood was that sunday morning bullshit

Upon arriving at a friend's bachelor party on sept. 2nd, I noticed several police cars and an ambulence infront of said friend's house. Getting out of my car I saw a person laying in the road with people gathered around. It was a friend of someone at the pary, who luckily was alive and able to talk. He crashed his bike upon leaving the party(after drinking a fair ammount of alcohol I assumed, although his breathalyzer test read within the legal limit) and was badly bruised and cut. If he didn't have his helmet on it would have likely been his last ride. He had just gotten the bike in april I heard and spent close to 8 grand on it, which rests in pieces on my now married friend's lawn
I share, therefore you are

I disagree with this. My primary vehicle is a 1996 Ford Club Wagon, which averages about 13.5 mpg between highway and city driving. When my grandpa gave me his bike on Memorial Day, I was elated, because I now have a vehicle that gets about 50mpg that I will be able to use around town for about 7-8 months out of the year. Far more economical and practical.

Actually in most states if a scooter is over 150cc's they are treated as motorcycles both for licensing and insurance purposes. Engine size also determines if you can ride one on an expressway, which if it is over 150cc's you can. I wouldn't do that with ten inch wheels but legally I could do it and I could keep up with the speed of traffic because there are scooters, both manual and automatic, that will cruise at over 70 mph. Also, while many popular scooters, Vespas in particular, are rear wheel direct drive, vintage Lambretta scooters, which range in displacement from 125 - 250 cc, are chain driven just like a motorcycle. One would wear a full faced helmet, jacket, gloves, boots and long pants if one were to ride a scooter, just like if one were to ride a motorcycle.

So yes scooters do in fact = motorcycles.
it's not the length, it's the gersch

no they are not. And you know full well why.
Hop on a vespa and roll on up to any motorcycle "group" and see what happens. Hop on a ducatta gay crotch vibrator and roll on down to haight strt and try and chill w/ the pseudo mods

its 2 completely different attention whoring subcultures. Motorcycles are mainstream "wanna be a bad ass" where as scooters are more urban faux cool retro

I got a scooter w/o any special license and anyone driving a scooter on a highway deserves to crash w/ those lil wheels.

I was on a scooter commuting to work a few years ago when a SF motorcycle cop sees me at an intersection
He motions to me "Get a real bike" of course he had a moustache

I gave away my scooter, even tho I tried to save money, parking spaces, environment, SF is decidedly anti-2wheel vehicles (long stories of getting 10X as many tickets as I ever have for driving/parking etc... a small lil yamaha scooter [meep meep]

not trying to say that scooters are somehow cooler than "bikes" as you "riders" like to call them. But lets get real, scooters are 100% NOT motorcycles

Riding a motorcyle makes one faux evil/bad boy - edgey!

I see the problem now.

You had a scooter, hence scooters are cool. Some dorks on cycles made fun of you, hence motorcyclists are attention-whores and all of us are macho-dorks.

Scooters are 99% motorcycles. You are wrong.

I had a Lambretta, mini-bikes, dirt-bikes, pretty much everything.

Your points are stupid and really, you should just stop.

ease up hard guy, don't pop a wheelie or scowl over your moustache on me or something.
no I never thought scooters were cool, in fact I had a yamaha.. which is clearly not even the *cool* brand. If I wanted to look cool or be scooter cool I would have gotten an italian scooter.

I had no parking at work in the city and didnt like riding the "old person killer" otherwise known as the SF Muni

I call bullshit, you know in your heart like any other "cycle" owner, that motocycles and "scooters" are about the 'same' as skiing and snowboarding. I.e. COMPLETELY different cultures

does anyone else want to agree w/ this obviously bogus statement that scooters and bikes are "the same"? or better yet, provide an example of sameness in the culture?

Ok how about this take the film Easy Rider

replace the motorcyles w/ Vespas

hows that work for ya?

"your points are stupid" is a cop out. You obviously do not think scooters and bikes are the same, no one does. Why aren't there any hells angels on Yamaha scooters? How come there arent any faux mods on haight riding Harleys?

Anyhoot the point of this thread is crap / not crap and it was close to 50/50 last I checked. Its ok to not like my opinion.

But its not ok to lie in a crap/not crap thread. At least be honest w/ your opinions.

Easy Rider was a movie.

It's 2007, not 1967. Maybe my cousins are in a cycle gang, but I'm not. I know several motorcyclists who also ride scooters. The lines have been crossed, they have been blurry for a number of years.

Admit your hatred of motorcyclists, I don't care. I'll get good mileage on my bike without hoping people are noticing me.
