I've got a bunch of these things sitting around. A few I use frequently, most I pull out once in a while and the rest I seldom use but like having them available.

I'd like to keep the damn things dust free and organized. I think there are shelving units/ containers out there specifically for this kind of thing but I suspect some of yous clever FMs have better ideas.

Or maybe not. What say you?

Shelves are a good way for things to get covered in dust. For stuff I actually use from time to time I put in the drawers of an old dresser in our space. Old dressers are free on most curbsides. stuff that isn't touched much gets stored in samsonite luggage with bed foam lining. its almost as good as a pelican case, but a hell of a lot cheaper.

Yeah I think I'm looking for a cross between a dresser and a tool cabinet. I have a hunch there's something between cheap Ikea crap and expensive mechanic's tool chest but maybe not. I'm keeping an eye on Craigslist for a retired machinist selling their old gear.

Aside from two small Ikea filing cabinets that I use as mic lockers, virtually everything is on some kind of open-shelf storage in the "live room" or just outside it. Just the injection-moulded four-shelf racks from Home Depot. I have a deeply "out of sight, out of mind" brain especially once I get rolling. For the mics it's not as big a deal, there's a lot more sober "pre-pro" at the micing-things stage (plus I really just don't want them rolling off onto the floor). But anything like pedals or smaller instruments I really prefer having visible/at hand at all times, even if it's not as tidy-looking.

Probably too late for this, and I know used stuff rarely has it, but the original box is a good way to keep filth out of it and they usually have a picture or text of what's inside. Easy to shelve and stack small rectangles...

Shelves + pillow cases = more creative flow.

I'll second (or third) the dresser. I've got an old dresser in my basement/studio/workshop that holds pedals, drum machines, power supplies, the odd synth, etc. Not only does it keep the dust off and keep things protected, but it's nice to not be looking high and low for something. Where's that weird EHX power supply? It's in the drawer.

Old fitted sheets make a good dust cover as well. I have one over my combo organ and one over my rolly cart that holds the 8 track and mixer. They stay much, much cleaner than they used to.

^^^ home organization articles are often big on clear boxes to store things for this reason. Unfortunately, clear boxes are just more useless plastic in a world that doesn't need it.

^ that would be them yes. Kind of pricy given the options others has said but I do enjoy their services when I want to go big.

This company needs to offer Torlex, they could have a bonanza of PRF group buys. I'd buy one.
